I feel that most people have probably gotten to the stage where they recognise that their emotions are very important. They understand that learning to manage them is a skillset that enables anyone to access a more real version of themselves.
What do I mean by a more real version of yourself? Well, when you get caught up in charged emotional states, you aren’t really yourself, at least not in the way you would like to be. Instead you become captured by feelings circulating throughout your body, in fact on some occasions you can feel their physical sensation as well. And at that moment, your actions and thoughts divert from any semblance of reason; instead you become captured by your emotions and in turn lash out and make things worse for you and everyone else.
Learning to centre oneself, especially in times of turmoil or stress, grants us the ability to respond to the world around us with increased patience and understanding. That means we can live a more genuine life and be secure in knowing that we acted appropriately, given the circumstances.
But you already knew all this right? Right.
So, there is another layer to that idea that needs to be expanded upon; if you really want to see those improvements in your life and in your writing. Think about it like this, emotions are like the weather, they come and go; but your personality is like the climate, it’s the weather over a timespan.
Just like how climate change deniers constantly say “Look at the weather today, it’s cold, how could global warming or climate change be real then?”. But they seem to miss that, yes, the weather is cold today but over time the weather is getting warmer. In other words, climate change is occurring, and its impact is going to be heavily skewed towards negative outcomes.
Now let’s bring it all in together, emotions are your day to day responsibility to manage but it is also of prime importance to adapt your personality towards a more positive and holistic being. The reason why, is if your personality is based in that desirable mindset of contentment, then those vibes will spill into your day to day emotions which will make life less of a burden.
All you have to do is be aware of this, and your subconscious mind will do most of the work. Just don’t forget to remind yourself about this often, because that does help a lot.
Remember, your self comes out in everything you do.
