You know that whole idea that your environment shapes you, is something we all somewhat implicitly understand but fail to recognise in our lives. However, a shift in my personal situation has radically changed the way I tackle things.
For context, up until recently I lived in a house with people who had completely different ways of running a household. Myself, I prefer surfaces to be clean and not cluttered with stuff. The some of the other people had an opposing view, they would leave things out for days, food would rot in the fridge and a whole host of other gross things.
I’ve now moved into a new place all by myself, no one else to contend with on how things should be run. And all I can say is it amazing, having the house cleaned to the way I like it creates the environment where I want to get more productive things done. There has been a solid increase in my output of my writing and other content, overall motivation and energy levels, as well as more peace of mind.
So, what I want to get across to you is, if you look around your home or apartment and you see endless piles of clutter or dirty dishes. Not wanting to sound like a nagging parent, but I think it’s time to focus your attention on clearing the space. It will free up mental space in addition to physical space.
I can understand that you might have a living situation similar to my previous one. Where multiple people live in one place. In that case, the thing to do would be to concentrate on your room. I always did try to keep my room in a very good state and that did have positive effect in may ways; give it a go. There isn’t much you can lose here, while there is much to be gained. And if it doesn’t work out in the long run, you can always fill up your place with useless crap, I mean you did it before.
