Okay a bit of a short one this time, I don’t think you’ll mind too much. Better that than boring you to no end.
As I’ve gone about my journey, I’ve noticed a change in my behaviours and perspectives. When I first started out, the goal was to work on myself and then see where that takes me. It wasn’t a narcissistic motivation or anything like that, it was just the entity which I could affect the most amount of change considering where I was in life. The reason why I feel that this fundamental step is important, relates to what this week’s lesson is about. Reality is, you can’t save someone from the seas if you’re also drowning.
So, it is vital that you initially work on yourself, otherwise you won’t be in a position to offer assistance to anyone. And if you choose to help when you aren’t ready, then more than likely you will make the situation much worse.
Now to the contribution part, I believe my journey has lead me to the point where I can now serve my community in a manner that will ease the burden and suffering of others. I’m not saying in a messiah kind of way, with feats that could be described as miracles, or feeding a million people. But more in the spirit of the saying, think global act local.
Today for instance, I went to donate blood to the Australian Red Cross; it’s something I started to do this year. More than likely I will never meet the people that my blood will help, but that’s not the point. The point is to be of service to your community, and I know that my donation won’t change the world but I truly believe that the more you can align yourself with such deeds. The more the karma of the world will favour you.
Maybe I’m too sentimental in that fashion? Regardless, I will choose to believe and hope you decide to join me in it.
What I want you to do is to think of some way you can be of service to your community and then go do it. It doesn’t have to be another major, but something worthy nonetheless…
